ABOUT FAIRFAX
Fairfax City was established as an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1961. Conveniently located only 17 miles west of D.C., it comprises six square miles and is served by Washington’s Orange line at the Vienna station, a mile northeast of the city limits. On the southern border of the city is George Mason University, with 35,000 students on its bustling campus. As of 2020, the population in the city has risen to 24,146 people. The City of Fairfax, known for its landscaped and leafy street medians, is an oasis, unique and brimming with vitality and has recently been recognized by Forbes as one of the top places to live in the nation.
